can any one explain me scanner class???

Scanner (object name)= new Scanner(System.in);
example : Scanner sc=new Scanner(System.in);
It can be used as an alternative to BufferedReader.
and it takes input from the user.
sc.nextInt();
sc.nextFloat();
sc.nextDouble();
sc.next();
sc.nextLong(); etc.
